Misuari only

Only Misuari (* 1942 in Jolo , Sulu ) a Filipino politician and former leader is the National Liberation Front Moro (German for Moro National Liberation Front ).

He graduated from the University of the Philippines. He then taught political science at university for a time and in the 1960s he founded the Mindanao Independence Movement, which aimed to found an independent Islamic state in the southern Philippines .

The Moros National Liberation Front (MNLF) emerged from the Mindanao Independence Movement and demanded political reforms from the Philippine government. However, the organization failed to win over the government for reforms. The MNLF, led by Misuari, carried out the conflict between 1972 and 1976 against the Ferdinand Marcos government and its supporters with violence. The project failed and Misuari went into exile in Saudi Arabia . In 1986 he returned to the Philippines after the fall of Marcos.

From 1996 to 2001 he was governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao .

In April 2008 he was deposed as head of the MNLF.
