The Nuuk Museum ( Danish Nuuk Museum , Greenlandic Nuup Katersugaasivia ), also Nuutoqaq , is the local museum of Nuuk .

history

The museum opened in May 2016. It is the third museum in the Greenlandic capital after the National Museum and the Art Museum .

building

The Nuutoqaq is located in building B-234, a former shipyard building in the old colonial port in the immediate vicinity of the National Museum. The Nuutoqaq includes the house of Niels Lynge (1880–1965), which is still originally furnished and whose walls are painted with works of art.

exhibition

The Nuuk Museum, unlike the National Museum, is used to display the local history of Nuuk. The focus is on recent history, i.e. the development of Nuuk as the capital of Greenland since decolonization in the 1950s. There are also changing special exhibitions and cultural events in Nuutoqaq.
