The two ν stars are located above σ , near the ecliptic (red dashed line).

The Bayer designation Ny Sagittarii ( Ny Sgr , ν Sagittarii , ν Sgr ) refers to two star systems ν 1 Sagittarii and ν 2 Sagittarii in the ecliptic - constellation Sagittarius . Their angular distance is 0.23 °.

Ny Sagittarii traditionally bears the name Ain al Rami , which is derived from the Arabic عين الرامي c ain ar-rāmī and means eye of the archer . Both ν-stars together with τ Sgr , ψ Sgr , ω Sgr , 60 Sgr and ζ Sgr are called Al Udḥiyy , ostrich nest . Ptolemy already described the star as nebulous and double: Quae in oculo est nebulosa et bina . Ny Sagittarii is therefore often cited as the earliest described double star , although it is only an optical double star .
