The Horrocks block is a large and rectangular cliff of sandstone on the east coast of the West Antarctic Alexander Island . It rises 3 km southwest of the Keystone Cliffs on the northern flank of the Venus Glacier .
The British Directorate of Overseas Surveys , in collaboration with the United States Geological Survey, mapped it using satellite images from NASA . The UK Antarctic Place Names Committee named it in 1974 based on the naming of the Venus Glacier after the English astronomer Jeremiah Horrocks (1619–1641), who was the first to calculate the Venus transit .
