Nyyrikki

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nyyrikki (pronunciation: ˈnyːrikːi) is in the Finnish epic Kalevala a friendly demon of the hunt, son of the forest demon Tapio and Mielikki and brother of Tellervo .

As Lemminkäinen of Louhi the order is given, the moose of Hiisi to kill, asks Lemminkäinen Nyyrikki, marks to set in order to show him the way. Lemminkäinen describes Nyyrikki in his verbatim speech as a man with a red cap.

Nyyrikki is also associated with the figure of King Nimrod , the legendary grandson of Noah from the Old Testament, who, in contrast to Nyyrikki, is often ascribed negative properties. A comparable hunting demon Ménrót also exists in Hungarian mythology .
