Hans Fromm (Germanist)

Hans Fromm (born May 26, 1919 in Berlin , † June 25, 2008 in Ottobrunn ) was a German professor of Germanic Medieval Studies and Finno-Ugric Studies .

Life

After graduating from high school in Berlin, he studied German , English and classical philology at the University of Berlin from 1937 to 1941 , which he completed with the state examination in 1941. In 1946 he was at the University of Tuebingen in Hermann Schneider to Dr. phil. PhD. From 1952 to 1958 he was lecturer and professor of German philology at the University of Turku . In 1957 he completed his habilitation at the LMU Munich with Hugo Kuhn and Wolfgang Schlachter . From 1957 to 1960 he was a lecturer in German Philology. In 1960 he became an associate. Professor of German Philology appointed at LMU Munich.

In 1963 he was offered a professorship for German Philology and Finno-Ugric Studies at LMU Munich. From 1970 to 1971 he was dean of the philosophy faculty. In 1987 he retired.

Act

The focus of his work was the literature of the German Middle Ages as well as the Finnish language and literature. However, he also worked as an editor and promoter of contemporary poetry. Among other things, he gave from 1959 to 1969 with Bernt von Heiseler Der Kranich. A yearbook for the Dramatic, Lyric and Epic Art and the anthology The Experience of the Present . He wrote the introduction to his friend Heiseler's correspondence with Reinhold Schneider . He was also connected to the poet and lyricist Ludwig Friedrich Barthel . With his widow Annemarie Barthel, he published the aphorisms and the autobiographical pieces of life in three volumes of poetry between 1968 and 1971 .

Since 1971 he has been a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences , since 1979 corresponding member of the Finnish Academy of Sciences , since 1990 holder of the Finnish honorary title " Academic " and since 1991 member of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen .
