Benjamin ( Chinese  张彬 , Pinyin Zhāng Bīn ; born May 16, 1974 in Heilongjiang Province , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese comic artist . He is known by his stage name Benjamin ( Chinese  本杰明 , Pinyin Běnjiémíng )

biography

Benjamin grew up in a village as the son of a teacher and a military officer. He attended a school for fashion and design, trained at the Institute of Light Industry in Dalian and went to Beijing in 1996 to begin a career as a cartoonist. While he initially consolidated his financial position through small jobs, he was finally able to publish  his first Manhua in 2000 with Xiatian meiyou de hua in the comic magazine Mànyǒu ( 漫 友 - "comic fan") . In 2002, Mǒu yitiān ( 某 一天 ) was his first book. In the same year he also published a two-volume guide for computer coloring.

After Benjamin, who colors all his work with the computer, briefly worked in the advertising industry as a graphic designer, he devoted himself entirely to comics with the books Orange and Remember . Here he mainly creates autobiographical works with a reference to Chinese society. A novel and an art book also followed .

His works are distributed internationally. Several of his books have already appeared in France, and in Germany Tokyopop published Remember in 2008 .
