Manhua

Manhua ( Chinese  漫畫  /  漫画 , Pinyin mànhuà , Jyutping maan 6 waa 6 ) is the Chinese term for comics . Outside of China, the term is used for Chinese comics. Most of the manhuas originate in Taiwan and Hong Kong .

In the 1920s and 1930s, Feng Zikai (1898–1975), Ye Qianyu and Zhang Leping shaped Manhua with their comic strips. Zhang Lepings Sanmao ( 三毛 , Sānmáo  - "three-haired") is one of the most famous works from this period . The term Manhua came up in 1925 with the publication of Feng Zikai's Zikai manhua ( 子 愷 漫畫  /  子 恺 漫画 , Zǐkǎi Mànhuà ).

Manhuas artists are called Manhuajia ( 漫畫家  /  漫画家 , mànhuàjiā  - "comic artist, Manhua illustrator").
