Hugo Kuhn

Hugo Kuhn (* 20th July 1909 in Thaleischweiler , now Thaleischweiler-Fröschen , † 5. October 1978 in Prien am Chiemsee ) was a German germanistischer medievalist .

Kuhn studied in Breslau and heard there especially from the art historian Dagobert Frey , the philosopher Richard Hönigswald and the theologian Friedrich Gogarten . When he switched to Tübingen in 1932, his interests also changed. He increasingly attended lectures by the Germanists Hermann Schneider and Paul Kluckhohn .

Kuhn obtained his doctorate in 1935 and submitted his habilitation thesis in 1939. In 1940 he was drafted into military service. He returned from the war wounded in 1943 and became a private lecturer in Tübingen in 1944, where he was an adjunct professor from 1947. In 1954 he was appointed to succeed Carl von Kraus in Munich, where he taught until his death in 1978. He retired in 1977 .

Since 1955 he was a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

In 1973 Kuhn converted from the Protestant to the Catholic faith. His older brother was the theologian and orientalist Karl Georg Kuhn .
