The Nzakara (also Ansakara, N'sakara, Nsakara, Sakara, Zakara, Nsakara) are an ethnic group that is mainly based in the Central African Republic but also in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . According to an estimate from 1996, the number in the Central African Republic was 50,000. They are a subgroup of the formerly powerful Sabanga . Around 1600 the Nzakara formed their own kingdom on the Ubangi . While fleeing from slave traders, the Banda migrated from Sudan to the Sabanga area. Around 1900 only the Nzakara could assert themselves. The Nzakara partially adopted the language of the Banda and assimilated with it.
