My heart is all yours
Your is my whole heart is probably the best-known song from the 2nd act of the operetta " Das Land des Smiles ", which premiered in 1929, by Fritz Löhner-Beda and Ludwig Herzer with music by Franz Lehár .
composition
The song is in D flat major and is structured according to the introduction-refrain-stanza-refrain scheme. The three-bar prelude, which begins with a diminished seventh chord in fortissimo, immediately creates a dramatic mood. The title melody, held in four-quarter time ( "Allegretto moderato ma non troppo" ), merges into the stanza in the 16th measure through two transitional measures with the 2nd theme, which is repeated in six-eighth time ( "Something moved" ) is held and is accompanied by characteristic runs of sixteenth notes. Then the title melody is repeated and ends faster and faster ( "Allegro" ) with the final note held over four bars in triple fortissimo.
history
Lehár wrote parts of the song in the first version of the operetta, which premiered in 1923 under the name The Yellow Jacket , for the person of the Chinese Prince Sou-Chong. Fritz laborers-Beda moved from the passage scent flows out of your hair and your skin is like perfume ... from the first to the second act and texted instead You are my heart, where you are not, I can not be ... . He found the melody for it in a 16-bar arioso on page 120 of the 124-page piano score, which the composer had already forgotten.
The song was dedicated to the tenor Richard Tauber , who premiered it, but also sang it again and again as an encore, making it very popular. After Tauber emigrated to London in 1938, the song became a world hit in the English-speaking world, both with the German text and the English translation ( “You are my heart's delight” ). It was considered " the deaf song ".
On December 10, 2012, the song was sung in Oslo by tenor Brenden Gunnell at the end of the ceremony to award the European Union the Nobel Peace Prize .
