Your is my whole heart is a song by the German singer Heinz Rudolf Kunze , for which Kunze created the text and Heiner Lürig the composition. It was released in October 1985 as the title track of the album of the same name. The single was released in December 1985. It reached number eight in the German charts; thus it is not only Kunze's first chart-ranked single, but also his most successful to date.
Text and music
The piece is a very fast rock song, with keyboards and a guitar solo, and musically completely independent of the song of the same name from the operetta The Land of Smiles . However, it takes up the title and the line “I can't be where you're not”. In the text, the protagonist appeals to a loved one for whom he still has feelings and who he would like to win back, even though it is painful for him (“Your is my whole heart / You are my rhyme with pain / We will be like giants / us the world becomes too small ”). Real emotions are juxtaposed with false "relationships": "What kind of people are those who have relationships / consider themselves as states / they don't seduce each other, they kidnap each other / they end up like diplomats". The song is "an extremely catchy pop song that today can almost be counted among the evergreens of German pop culture."
Emergence
Your is my whole heart is a rare exception in the otherwise typical process of creating songs for Kunze: Usually he first writes the lyrics, on the basis of which the melodies are then created. However, deviating from this creative pattern, Kunze wrote the lyrics for this song on the melody already composed by Heiner Lürig , which Lürig had devised years before before his collaboration with Kunze began in 1985. The producer Conny Plank was instrumental in the recording .
Publication and reception
The single was released on December 9, 1985 on WEA . The B-side contains the song Fathers . A 12 ″ Maxi was also released in 1985. The song has appeared on numerous best-of albums and compilations since 1985 , for example on The Ultimate Chart Show and Die Hit-Giganten .
The single reached number eight in Germany and was in the charts for 16 weeks, from December 23, 1985 to April 7, 1986.
On December 18, 1985, Kunze appeared in the ZDF hit parade , but could not reach number one, which at that time would have been necessary for another appearance. Other television appearances followed at the time.
In 2012 Kunze released the song as a duet version with Pe Werner on his album Ich bin das Lied . On March 8, 2013, the song made a re-entry at number 95. On May 3, 2015, he played the song in a piano version in the ZDF television garden .
In 2018 Kunze sang the song as a duet with Ben Zucker , who also has the song in his solo program, in our big show at RBB . In 2019 Nicole released a duet version of the song on her album 50 ist das neue 25 , sung by her and Heinz Rudolf Kunze, with whom she is friends.
