The Schröders were a German punk band from Bad Gandersheim . Members were Burger, Hämpy, O-Lee and Sascha.

Career

The Schröders were founded in 1989 by Burger (vocals and acoustic guitar) and Hämpy (guitar) in Bad Gandersheim in Lower Saxony and were expanded in the same year by the bassist Hachi. In early 1990, drummer Mike completed the line-up.

After gaining a fan base through regional appearances and events in clubs and the like at the beginning, the "Friends of the Schröders" fan club was founded in 1989. They received their first national attention when they took part in an eight-part photo love story in the youth magazine Bravo in 1990 . The first single Candy , which was also released by EMI in 1990 and sold over 15,000 times, gave them additional, mostly regional, media presence.

After switching from EMI to the indie label TAOB, in 1991 they released their first album Mutter Horcht am Ihr Tür , which was followed by their first tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In 1993 there was the first change in the band, drummer Mike, who preferred to start an apprenticeship, was replaced by Maja. A short time later, the bass player had to be swapped as Hachi and Burger fell out. For him came bassist Hagen and guitarist Vipo.

With this new line-up, they changed their label again and in 1995 released their second studio album, Frisch gepresst, on WEA Records . The album and its single Let's make dirty love was particularly successful in Austria , they stayed at number 1 in the Austrian charts for weeks and were awarded platinum. But the album was also successful in Germany, so that the band appeared in various VIVA programs over the next few months . In 1996 the LP Schwer Scheff was released , after which Die Schröders in Austria played in the opening act for Bon Jovi and H-Blockx . With this album, the band was part of a new generation of bands in the alternative rock environment with German lyrics.

The fourth album by the band Gilp came out a year later and was also accompanied by a tour. In the period after that, WEA Records as well as Maja and Hagen separated. Maja wanted to concentrate on his DJ career. Hagen now works as a tour bassist for Oomph! . Bassist O-Lee and drummer Sascha filled the vacant positions. On the Gilp CD , the band presented a new musical spectrum, ranging from easy listening to electronic elements. This development not only met with positive feedback, but it also showed the band's willingness to sound out different musical styles - as it did before with the transition from the poppy album "Frisch Gepresst" to the rough successor "Schwer Scheff".

It was not until 2001 that the next album Das Leben ist kein Ponyhof was presented, which was released via EMI Music and was again significantly more guitar-heavy than its predecessor. In 2002 lead guitarist Vipo left the band for personal reasons. From this point on, the Schröders appeared in groups of four.

In the following two years, the band worked primarily on being able to act independently of the large record industry. Further offers from major major record labels were consistently rejected.

In 2003 the best of album Das Beste was released. In the same year they delivered the theme song for the ProSieben series " What doesn't fit is made to fit ".

Their last, again very punk-rock-oriented album Endlich 18 was released on February 22nd, 2008. In April and May 2008 there was a tour in over 20 clubs in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy as well as festival appearances in the summer.

On February 17, 2009, Jens Burger announced the dissolution of the Schröders. They wanted some festivals and the end of a farewell tournee play. The band does not rule out a possible comeback.

On December 27th, 2009 the Schröders ended their farewell tour with a last concert in the sold out Palaver Hall in their hometown Bad Gandersheim. As a surprise, they presented themselves to the audience once again as Bonanza Boys and thus appeared as their own opening act. The second opening act was a formation that included Schröders bassist O-Lee and Mercher “Timmey” and also brought other members of the Schröders team onto the stage. The Schröders themselves sometimes played again with former band members.

In 2014 the Schröders played at the Taubertal Festival and the Open Flair . The Schröders played on September 22, 2018 at the rock spectacle in Hamburg.

Self-support

At times the Schröders played as their own opening act during their tours . This was done in disguise, so that it could not be seen that the Schröders themselves were already on stage - for a long time as the "Buntten Tunten ", a loud punk rock band with a " drag queen look". Elaborately costumed and made up as women, they covered disco classics as punk rock versions.

While the boy band - hysteria by the year 2001, Schroeder staged the Bonanza Boys , recorded as ugliest boy band in the world. Dressed in ill-fitting suits, staid wigs and thick horn-rimmed glasses, they rearranged boy group hits of the time into “ Thrash Metal pieces” so that the songs - with the exception of the chorus - were largely made unrecognizable. Another special feature, in addition to the extravagant stage outfits and the completely motionless playing of the pieces, were minute-long breaks between the individual songs, in which the band did not speak a word and stood petrified on the stage.
