Wolfgang Kuhoff

Wolfgang Kuhoff (born February 3, 1951 in Paderborn ) is a German ancient historian .

After graduating from the state grammar school Theodorianum Paderborn in 1969, Wolfgang Kuhoff studied history, art history and classical archeology at the Ruhr University Bochum from 1971 to 1976 and graduated with the state examination. From 1976 he was employed at the University of Augsburg as a research assistant, assistant, academic councilor, academic senior councilor and senior assistant. In 1981 he received his doctorate there with the thesis " Studies on the civil senatorial career in the 4th century AD. Offices and office holders in Clarissimat and spectability ". In 1988 the habilitation followed with the thesis “ Felicior Augusto melior Traiano. Aspects of the self-portrayal of the Roman emperors during the principle time ”and the appointment as private lecturer. Since 1996 Kuhoff has been teaching as an unscheduled and since 2003 as Professor of Ancient History in Augsburg. In 2014 Kuhoff ended his teaching activity in Augsburg.

Kuhoff mainly deals with the history of the Roman Empire , late antiquity and the Germanic peoples with an emphasis on the Diocletian - Constantinian epoch. Furthermore with the state administration and social history of the upper class in the late Roman period, the early Roman history, the Latin epigraphy and the history of the ancient tradition in Germany and Italy. Kuhoff wrote numerous articles in the Biographisch-Bibliographisches Kirchenlexikon (BBKL).
