Paul Bouman

Paul Bouman (born August 26, 1918 in Hamburg , Minnesota , † April 28, 2019 ) was an American church musician and composer .

Bouman studied music education at Concordia College in River Forest and Northwestern University in Evanston and then attended the Westphalian Church Music School in Herford . He has served as the music director and music teacher at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , St. Paul Lutheran Church in Melrose Park , Illinois , and Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest, Illinois.

He has taught at the Lutheran Worship Conferences , given workshops for the Chorister's Guild and the American Guild of Organists, and directed children's choirs as a member of the Illinois Grade School Music Association . In 1971 he founded the Bach Vesper Cantata Series at Grace Lutheran Church with Carl Schalk . In 1984 he studied children's choirs for the Bethlehem Bach Festival in Bethlehem , Pennsylvania . He was a member of the American Guild of Organists, the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada , the American Choral Director's Association, and the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians . Bouman published several volumes of church music choral works ( Blest Are They , Saved By a Touch , Sing to the Lord a New Song (Psalm 96) , "Take Up Your Cross," the Savior Said ).
