Nzema (people)

The Nzema are a people in Ghana and the Ivory Coast , also called Apolo , Appolo , Ndenye , Nzema and Nzima .

This people lives mainly in the southwest of Ghana and beyond the border with the Ivory Coast. In Ghana, the main part of the ethnic group, around 273,000 Nzema, live in the western region . About 88,000 Nzema live in the Ivory Coast near the border with Ghana.

The Nzema East District in the western region of Ghana was named after the Nzema people . Their language, the Nzema, has the status of a national language.
