ONCE [ ˈonθe ] stands for Spanish Organización Nacional de Ciegos de España , the Spanish organization for the blind. The organization, based in Madrid , was founded in 1938, but it only acquired its current importance with the award of the lottery license in 1984.

To this day, ONCE in Spain is primarily responsible for the lotteries it organizes : the Cupón is drawn every day except Saturdays . If one or more of the final digits of the number drawn match the purchased ticket, a prize is paid out. Since 2005 there has been a draw for the new El Combo lottery on Saturdays . In each case 50% of the stakes are distributed as profit.

The tickets are sold on the street by the blind or otherwise disabled , sometimes in kiosks the size of telephone booths. The idea is that of a charity lottery: by participating, you finance the jobs of people who would otherwise not find any. At the same time, however, ONCE is a very financially strong organization with, among other things, considerable real estate assets. Also was the ONCE 1989-2003 sponsor of the cycling team ONCE .

Although the Décimo tickets of the Spanish national lottery Loterías y Apuestas del Estado are similar to those of ONCE, they are competing lotteries. The former organizes the famous Christmas lottery every year , not ONCE.

ONCE sells the Eurojackpot in Spain.
