ORBIS (company database)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ORBIS is a database that contains company data. It is a frequent starting point for studies, especially in economics , because it contains data from companies in different countries. The database is operated by Bureau van Dijk , a subsidiary of Moody's Analytics . The database contains balance sheets , sales , company shareholders and branches . In 2010, data sources were national credit agencies such as Creditreform for Germany and Austria , but Fitch Ratings and Reuters were also among the sources of the database. From a national perspective, ORBIS can at best contain 50% of the companies in one country, but only a few companies are listed in the database in other countries. Nevertheless, with over 200 million entries in 2020, it is considered the largest international company database. Especially for Europe there is a data set in the database with Amadeus which contains the companies on this continent.

The OECD created a database for itself in 2009 based on the ORBIS database. Your name is OECD-ORBIS. This did not contain all of the data, for example, inactive companies were not included in the modified database, but the period was also limited to between 1999 and 2008. This resulted in a data set of 34 million companies, about ten million fewer than in the original data set.
