history

In 1995, Moody's Corporation established the Moody's Risk Management Service (MRMS) business, which provided quantitative analysis services, including credit risk assessment software and services.

In the late 1990s, Moody's sought partnerships with other organizations and made acquisitions to expand its customer base and range of products.

In early 2000, Moody's acquired the Software Products Group from Crowe, Chizek & Co., then the eighth largest accounting and management consultancy in the United States. This gives Moody's access to software that banks used for risk analysis when extending commercial loans . In the same year, MRMS teamed up with RiskMetrics to develop software that combined credit risk analysis and portfolio management.

In February 2002, Moody's acquired KMV (Kealhofer McQuown Vasicek ), a San Francisco-based quantitative risk management company , and merged it with MRMS to form Moody's KMV. The company took over the customers and the software tool for calculating credit default probabilities, EDF (Expected Default Frequency), from KMV. Moody's KMV integrated the financial model software of all former companies and launched its credit risk management system Credit Monitor in 2003.

With the acquisition of Economy.com, an economic research and analysis company based in West Chester, Pennsylvania, in 2005, Moody's expanded its offering to include research services on the economic and demographic level, country analysis and data on economic, financial and regional markets.

The following year, Moody's acquired San Francisco-based financial analysis and monitoring software developer Wall Street Analytics, later renamed Moody's Wall Street Analytics. With the acquisition, Moody's acquired software for financial risk management, including a tool for evaluating collateralized debt obligations (CDOs).

In August 2007, Moody's Corporation created a new line of business for the combined non-rating activities, Moody's Analytics, which operates independently of Moody's Investors Service . The subsidiaries that Moody's Analytics currently includes include a. Moody's KMV, Economy.com, Wall Street Analytics, Fermat International, Enb Consulting Ltd., The Institute of Risk Standards and Qualifications (iRSQ) and most recently CSI Global Education Inc. The new division initially started operations with Moody's KMV, Economy.com and Wall Street Analytics. Other subsidiaries later joined Moody's Analytics as part of takeovers.

In 2008, Moody's Analytics acquired Fermat International, a Brussels-based provider of financial risk and performance management software in the banking sector that was used by over 100 banks in 30 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

In December 2008, Enb Consulting Ltd., a Surrey, England-based provider of professional education and training programs for the financial sector, was integrated into Moody's Analytics Training Services. This includes subject-specific and soft skills training for professionals from the banking sector and capital market experts.

In 2010, Moody's Analytics founded the Institute of Risk Standards and Qualifications (iRSQ), a facility for competence training and certification in financial risk management. The iRSQ qualification is recognized by the UK Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) and the certification program has been recognized by the Financial Services Skills Council as a training standard for applied risk management.

With the acquisition in November 2010 of the Canadian Securities Institute Global Education Inc. (CSI), a provider of training and certification programs for the financial sector, Moody's Analytics expanded its range of training courses. The CSI is best known for its introductory course in the stock and bond markets, the Canadian Securities Course, which is compulsory for all investment advisors licensed in Canada.

In June 2010, Moody's Analytics formed a strategic alliance with Experian to offer financial institutions software to manage consumer credit portfolios. The first joint product was called CreditCycle Plus and is a tool for forecasting potential losses and for carrying out stress tests for different loan portfolios.

In March 2011, Moody's Analytics announced a new computer program, Mortgage Portfolio Analyzer , developed by Moody's Research Labs to help portfolio managers manage credit risk.

In November 2011, Moody's Corporation acquired a majority stake in the companies of Copal Partners, a provider of third-party research and analysis services for institutional clients. With this takeover, Moody's Analytics is expanding its range of research, data, software and training services.

In December 2011, Barrie & Hibbert Limited, a leading provider of risk management modeling tools for insurance companies used by more than 150 customers, was integrated into Moody's Analytics risk management services across the company. These include software solutions for the insurance industry and the pension sector worldwide.
