OSWIN radar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The OSWIN radar ( Baltic Sea Wind Radar ) is a radar device from the Institute for Atmospheric Physics in Kühlungsborn , which is used to investigate the high atmosphere .

The OSWIN radar, which went into operation in 1999, operates at a frequency of 53.5 MHz and sends out pulses with a peak power of 90 kilowatts (average power: 4.5 kW) to investigate the high atmosphere. The automatically working system supplies height profiles of the 3-D wind vector and the radar reflectivity in the range from 1 to 18 kilometers. An array of 144 Yagi antennas is used as the antenna .
