Oak Technology

Oak Technology was founded in 1987 and was based in Sunnyvale , California . The company was a supplier of controller chips for optical drives such as CD-ROM , CD-RW and DVD as well as sound card chips such as the well-known Mozart sound card. In the late 1980s and early 1990s graphics chips for PC graphics cards were also offered. With the advent of the 3D accelerator in the mid-1990s, the company withdrew from this market on March 31, 1998 and concentrated on controller chips. On August 11, 2003, Oak Technology was taken over by chip manufacturer Zoran .
