Sunnyvale is a city in Santa Clara County in the US state of California , bordering on the west of San José , with around 150,000 inhabitants (as of 2018).
The urban area, which is predominantly built up by single-family houses, covers an area of 58.6 km². The city is considered the center of Silicon Valley . The headquarters of AMD , Juniper Networks , MIPS Technologies , Bloom Energy , OCZ Technology , NetApp , HP Palm and Yahoo! , which also maintains its main data center here.
history
The city was founded by Martin Murphy Jun. He was a fellow traveler of the Stephens-Townsend-Murphy Party , a group of settlers who, in 1844, were the first to manage to cross the Sierra Nevada Mountains in a covered wagon , coming from the east .
Demographics
The 2010 census showed a population of 140,081. This means that the urban population has increased by around 10,000 compared to the year 2000. In terms of the number of ethnic groups represented, the demographic structure gave a special feature in comparison to California. If Asian immigrants are a minority throughout the state and the United States in general, they made up a relative majority of 40 percent according to the census data. Whites, on the other hand, were represented with a share of 34 percent. Almost 19 percent of the city's population are Latinos , which means that their proportion is low by California standards. Also, African Americans were comparatively represented very weak, because they represent only two percent of the population. According to the 2010 census, the number of households was 53,384. For every 100 women there were 101.5 men. The median age of the city population was 35.6 years.
climate
The climate of the region not far from the Pacific is Mediterranean . The summer months are always warm with average temperatures of 26 ° C, although values of over 40 ° C have already been measured. Precipitation can be observed much less often in summer than in the winter months, although temperatures often remain relatively mild even in the winter months.
