OCZ Technology was an American manufacturer of RAM and Flash memories , whose headquarters are in Sunnyvale, California. Since entering the memory market in 2002, OCZ has focused its goals primarily on the computer hardware enthusiast. In addition, OCZ also offered PC power supplies, computer cooling products, graphics cards and other miscellaneous computer components. Computer mice have also been made since 2007.

On November 27, 2013, the company announced that it was facing bankruptcy. On January 23, 2014, OCZ Technology was acquired by Toshiba .

General

OCZ had offices in the Netherlands, Canada, Brazil and also a research and development facility in Taipei, Taiwan ROC. In June 2006, OCZ became a public company on the London Stock Exchange, however, on April 2, 2009, the company announced it would trade its shares there, stating that it would only trade in the United States in the future. In addition to PC Power and Cooling , Hypersonic was also taken over in 2007.

Products

random access memory

DDR2 Gold Series RAM module from OCZ

OCZ manufactured DDR memories for various areas of application. The initial division into the Value, Performance and Platinum series for DDR1-RAM has been continuously new divisions introduced since then. With DDR2 memory, the Gold series and the high-end modules Fatal1ty (gaming) and Titanium (non-professional servers) were created. In addition, modules with optimizations for platforms ( Crossfire Certified, SLI -Ready) and locations (Reaper in HTPCs , Flex XLC in systems with water cooling ) were offered. The DDR3 collection already included an Intel Core i7 -optimized memory kit with the Intel Extreme Series . The choices for notebooks and older Apple systems were significantly smaller.

On January 11, 2011, OCZ announced in a press release that it would withdraw from the memory market. The reasons given for this are the small share of the memory division in total sales, very small profit margins in the sale of memory modules and the company's focus on the rapidly growing SSD market.

Flash memory

OCZ also manufactured flash storage media such as solid state drives , USB sticks and SD cards. As with the RAM modules, various series with different capacities are available in each product category. As a special feature, OCZ offered storage media for the ExpressCard slot and the eSATA interface, which could also be used via USB for reasons of compatibility.

Solid state drives

OCZ Vertex 2 Solid State Drive

The OCZ Colossus, a 3.5 "SSD with up to one terabyte of storage capacity, was presented at Computex 2009. The OCZ Z-Drive was also available with up to one terabyte, which consists of several SSDs in a RAID network which are connected to the computer via a PCI-Express slot. The data throughput , with fresh flash cells, is around 870 for reading and 780 MB / s for writing.

Power supplies

OCZ had released several different ranges of power supplies . The three best known are the ProXStream, the GameXStream and the PowerStream series. The ProXStream and GameXStream series were among the first power supplies that could provide 1,000 watts of power, shortly after PC Power and Cooling, which OCZ acquired on May 25, 2007.

Graphics cards

For about a year, OCZ had the Nvidia GeForce 3 series on offer, but it was discontinued. In early 2007, the Nvidia GeForce 8800 series, which supports DirectX 10 , was introduced at OCZ.

Computer mice

In February 2007 OCZ presented its first computer mouse, the OCZ Equalizer and the smaller version for notebooks Equalizer Go. With its high resolution and various additional functions, it is aimed at the player group. The offer was later supplemented by the OCZ Dominatrix.

The OCZ NIA ( Neural Impulse Actuator ), which appeared in 2008, is a special feature . This should act as a mouse replacement and consists of a headband that measures and interprets nerve and muscle currents with the help of electrodes. This device should also be able to control complex processes, such as PC games, without the aid of classic input devices such as a mouse or keyboard.
