The Obama Foundation is a Chicago- based non-profit organization established in 2014 . She oversees the establishment of the Barack Obama Presidential Center , directs the My Brother's Keeper Alliance, a program Barack Obama began during his tenure as President to promote the inclusion of young ethnic minority men, and runs a scholarship program through the Harris School of Public Policy of the University of Chicago . The foundation also runs community projects and programs in the United States and the rest of the world.

The foundation held its founding summit in Chicago on October 31, 2017. According to Barack Obama, he wants his foundation to be at the center of much of his post-presidency activities, which he believes have the potential to be more momentous than his time in the White House . On September 25, 2018, an IRS report revealed that the foundation had no longer identified any potential major donors. In 2018, donations and in-kind donations totaled $ 164.8 million, according to the annual report released in June 2019. The previous year, donations totaled over $ 200 million.
The foundation's main project is overseeing the construction of the proposed presidential library for former President Obama, the Barack Obama Presidential Center. In May 2015, the foundation, together with the Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel , announced the development of the center and its location in the Jackson Park area of Chicago's South Side.
In February 2018, the foundation announced that it had started a scholarship program at the University of Chicago. The scholarships are awarded to 25 American and international Masters students from the Harris School of Public Policy to develop leadership skills through the Presidential Center. It covers tuition and living expenses for students while they work with the foundation and take courses.
