The Obere Mühle in Bad Oberdorf is an old property on the banks of the Ostrach , which today houses a museum, among other things.

history

The property, which was already wealthy at the time, was first mentioned in 1433. At that time, the Obere Mühle belonged to a man who was known as Bäslar . From 1503 to 1599 the Obere Mühle served as a sawmill; until 1968 it still housed a sawmill.

It has been used as a museum since 1979 and as an inn and hotel since 1987. Under the threshing floor a dairy was set up in a rock cellar in 1994, which can be visited as a show dairy .

As a house brand , which before the house numbers were introduced in 1785, was used to designate the house as well as the equipment and the wood, the Obere Mühle has two eyes (triangles) against each other between two bicks (bars) degrees.

museum

The local history museum on the upper floor offers an extensive photo collection on the history of the places and people in the Ostrachtal, as well as numerous exhibits that illustrate the living conditions of past centuries. In addition to tools, furnishings, costumes and vehicles, minerals and fossils can also be seen and explanations of lost industries such as flax cultivation and linen production are available. The museum is freely accessible, but not barrier-free. The mentor and founder of the museum was Anton Morent together with his son Ralf Morent from Oberjoch.
