Higher People's Court

A Supreme People's Court ( Chinese  高级人民法院 , Pinyin Gāojí Rénmín Fǎyuàn ) is a court of ordinary jurisdiction in the People's Republic of China . According to Article 26 of the People's Courts Act of January 1, 1980 in the People's Republic of China, there is a People's Supreme Court in every province , autonomous region or city directly under the government. Higher people's courts set up criminal , civil and economic chambers as well as other chambers as far as they are found necessary (Art. 27). They recognize first instance in the cases assigned to them by law, or when a lower court assigns them a case. They recognize in the second instance about appeals and revisions of the lower courts.
