Surface temperature (thermodynamics)

The surface temperature is the temperature of a body that prevails on its surface and thus, in relation to its thermal radiation , the temperature that is visible or measurable from the outside. It is important both when the inside of the body has a different temperature than the outer layers and when one wants to describe processes of heat transfer on the surface or between surfaces and the inside of the body / body environment.

Thermodynamics and heat transfer

A temperature gradient within a body occurs when a body with an initially homogeneous temperature is in a colder or warmer environment, i.e. heat is supplied or removed from it. The outer layers fit while its temperature rapidly to the ambient temperature, than that, depending on the thermal diffusivity , more or less thermally insulated interior. For example, a body that is heated in a water bath has a higher temperature on its surface than inside, and the same applies in reverse for cooling .
