The Oberlausitz Clinics are an academic teaching hospital of the Technical University of Dresden in the Bautzen district with locations in Bautzen and Bischofswerda .

history

The hospital at today's location in Bautzen ( Lage ) began as a new building in 1844, long after the first hospital in the city in 1638. In the following years, the new building was outside the city gates until the Oberlausitz clinics were founded in 2003 expanded several times.

The Bischofswerda ( Lage ) hospital complex was merged into the existing specialist departments in 1998. The buildings of the former, now shared city hospital were completed in 1899 after a five-year construction period. In 1934 a business school moved into the building, and from 1954 it was again used for medical purposes. After the merger of the Bautzen and Bischofswerda district hospitals in 1998, the Oberlausitz clinics were founded in 2003.

facts and figures

In 2014, both locations had 84,229 patients, of which around 22,000 were emergencies (which have remained the same over the years) and around 29,000 outpatient treatments. The plan beds have developed from 758 in 1994 to 570 in 2014 due to better treatment methods.
