The Marrakech trolleybus is the only trolleybus system in Morocco and the only one in Africa . The responsible transport company is ALSA , which also operates the local city buses .

history

The plant in the city of Marrakech went into regular operation on September 29, 2017, after it had been officially opened two days beforehand. After Casablanca (1932–1972) and Tétouan (1950–1975), it is the third trolleybus system in the country. For the time being, the only line between Massira and Guéliz runs largely along Avenue Hassan II and is ten kilometers long. It operates between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. In peak hours, in the six-minute clock down, in the off-peak hours only every twelve minutes.

However, the route is only equipped with an overhead contact line over a length of around three kilometers , while the majority of the route is covered by battery drive. The trolleybus in Marrakech is based on the Bus Rapid Transit concept, which means that a large number of dedicated lanes are available. As part of the overall project, a solar power plant was built specifically for the power supply . A second line is to be added to the system at the end of 2019.

vehicles

At the start of operations, 15 twelve-meter-long, low-floor Veyron G9 solo cars from the Chinese manufacturer Dongfeng Motor Corporation were initially available. A maximum of ten are required at the same time in regular operation. However, articulated vehicles are provided for the planned second line.
