Oblattertor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oblattertor ( Oblater Thor ) was a side gate of the former ring wall of Augsburg and was located in the northeast of Augsburg's old town in the Jakobervorstadt district .

Written documents from 1449 describe the city gate for the first time. When the city fortifications of Augsburg were laid down in the 19th century, the Oblattertor was also demolished in 1867. The gate is connected to the Oblatterwall in the east , also part of the city fortifications and still preserved to this day. The gate is named after the powder maker Ulrich Oblatter, who lived there from 1452 to 1496.
