Obviously 5 Believers is a song by Bob Dylan that appeared on his seventh studio album, Blonde on Blonde , in 1966 .

It's an electrically amplified song that is played as a cool rock 'n' roll number . The recording was produced by Bob Johnston for Columbia Records . The piece was also released as the b-side of the single Just Like a Woman in August 1966 .

The structure of the piece is based on the Chauffeur Blues by Memphis Minnie . Lyrically, it is a love song that is told with bizarre and surrealistic metaphors. Musically it is driven by the guitar played by Robbie Robertson as well as by Charlie McCoy's harmonica interludes and the drums by Kenny Buttrey . Dylan himself identified the piece as an R&B song .

The recording, which can be heard on Blonde on Blonde , was made on the night of March 9-10, 1966, when the piece was still called Black Dog Blues . After initial problems, Dylan complained to the band by saying that it was a very simple song and that he didn't want to spend too much time with it. The song was eventually recorded in four takes .
