The Ocala National Forest is a National Forest in central northern US state of Florida , in the United States . It lies north of the city of Orlando between the Ocklawaha and St. Johns rivers . The Ocala National Forest spans Lake County, Marion County, and Putnam Counties , with most of the national forest in Marion County. The national forest covers an area of 1550 square kilometers. It was founded in 1908 and is administered by the United States Forest Service .

The Ocala National Forest is home to the largest contiguous sand and pine occurrence in the world. The forest, which is home to more than 600 lakes, rivers and springs, is characterized by high water resources.
