Oculus (dance)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oculus is a choreography by the Taiwanese dance director Kuo-Chu Wu . The piece was choreographed by Kuo-chu Wu for the Kassel State Theater .

Oculus is Latin for "eye". When Kuo-Chu Wu chose this word as the title for his choreography, he was expressly referring to the dome of the Pantheon in Rome , through whose oculus the light from above, from the heavens, falls into the huge building.

The premiere of Oculus took place in 2005 at the Staatstheater Kassel, where Wu had worked as a dance director with his company . The piece is now danced by the Cloud Gate Dance Theater 2 company.
