Kuo-Chu Wu

Kuo-Chu Wu ( Chinese  伍國柱 , Pinyin Wŭ Gúozhù , born August 18, 1970 in Kaohsiung , † January 6, 2006 in Taipei ) was a Taiwanese choreographer .

Life

After studying at the National Institute of the Arts in Taiwan from 1997 to 2004, Kuo-Chu Wu studied dance at the Folkwang University in Essen , which significantly influenced his work. During this time he made a name for himself with his own choreographies . In 2002 he won the dance prize of the Josef and Else Classen Foundation . In June 2004 he gave the world premiere of “Fugue” at the Folkwang dance evening with the third class. In addition to several choreographies for the Cloud Gate Dance Theater in Taiwan, with which he toured Hong Kong and Taiwan , he choreographed on behalf of the Wuppertal Opera House and the Folkwang University.

Following his studies in the 2004/2005 season, Kuo-Chu Wu became director of the Tanztheater Kassel and took some Folkwang dancers with him into his company. The first dance evening, which in the Nov. 5, 2005 Documenta-Halle in Kassel State Theater premiere , had continued to work with the Cloud Gate Dance Theater.

Kuo-Chu Wu died of leukemia on January 6, 2006 .

In June 2006 the premiere of the piece Windschatten , which the dancer Malou Airaudo choreographed in honor of Kuo Chu Wu, took place.
