Ginger Snaps - The Beginning ( Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning ) is a Canadian horror film from the year 2004 . It is the prequel to Ginger Snaps (2000) and Ginger Snaps II: Unleashed (2004). The werewolf film contains elements of the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood .

In 1815 the lonely sisters Ginger and Brigitte find refuge in a trading fort in the wilderness of Canada, far cut off from any civilization. The situation is tense as the few residents have been waiting for the delivery of supplies for months and the fort is suffering from constant attacks by werewolves . After Ginger was bitten by the commandant's son (he hid his infected child and declared him dead in the fort), she soon aroused the suspicion of the fanatical priest and the other fort residents. The situation continues to escalate. The residents find that no help will come and one by one falls victim to the wolves. Chaos breaks out, Ginger disappears and Brigitte manages to find an Indian shaman with the help of an Indian hunter. In a vision she sees how she will kill her sister while the Indian sacrifices himself. Ginger opens the gate to the fort for the wolves, so that all residents die. The Indian kills a number of wolves. When he confronts the possessed Ginger, unlike in the vision, he is stabbed by Brigitte. The two sisters leave the fort. In the final scene, both sisters knowingly touch their bleeding hands, so that the infection now also passes to Brigitte - the curse that has lasted until the present is sealed.
criticism
The lexicon of international film saw "another offshoot of the prequel fashion, which should shed light on the prehistory of a two-part Canadian horror series. The familiar actors, a solid direction and the dignified equipment do not make the return of the eternal the same any more entertaining. "
