documenta hall
The documenta hall is an event and exhibition building on Friedrichsplatz in Kassel.
history
The documenta has no permanent exhibition rooms, but should have a building to expand the possibilities of exhibition conception. Initial drafts envisaged locking the Friedrichsplatz to the Karlsaue State Park ; A variant was implemented on the slope edge, which still allows a view of the landscape. The building was designed and implemented in 1992 by the architects " Jourdan & Müller (PAS)" in a postmodern - constructivist design language with elements of cubism as a complement to the adjoining theater building by Paul Bode and Ernst Brundig.
The technical building equipment is extensive and the maintenance of the interior is considered expensive.
use
The building is used for exhibitions as part of the documenta , as well as a temporary exhibition space and for events, trade fairs and congresses in downtown Kassel. Since the hall has several levels, the use turned out to be difficult; Since 2008, it has therefore been the preferred permanent location for the masterclass exhibits.
Until the end of the renovation work in the main building of the State Theater in February 2007, the documenta hall served as one of the replacement venues for the State Theater in Kassel. Since then, an awning has been attached to the glass front that opens onto the park , which is intended to reduce the incidence of light, despite the concrete supports in front. As the inner imprint of the geometrical outer shell, the large “ rotunda ” in the basement in particular are convexizing and remain difficult to read for the layman.
As of 2013, the location of the tattoomenta , a tattoo and piercing fair that is “one of the most renowned public fairs in the tattoo scene”, has been relocated to the documenta hall in Kassel.
