Ode (Greek ᾠδή Russian Песнь , song ) is the name of a hymn in the liturgy of the Orthodox churches .

An ode consists of several prayers (chants). The canon , a form of the Orthodox liturgy, contains a total of nine odes. These each consist of a biblical chant ( canticum ) and further prayers and praises by Orthodox theologians of the 4th to 10th centuries.
