Odiste

Odiste is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the Estonian district of Viljandi . Today it belongs to the rural municipality of Kolga-Jaani . Odiste has 117 inhabitants (as of 2000).

Odiste is best known for its historic mirror and glass factory, which was founded in 1795 as a branch of the Võisiku factory near the former hamlet of Rõika ( Rõika peeglivabrik ). At first she employed about fifty hand grinders. In 1831 polishing machines were put into operation. In the 1920s, operations were discontinued due to the collapsing market. The workers' houses were converted into villas and hunting lodges.
