Coordinates: 35 ° 4 ′ S , 138 ° 51 ′ E The District Council of Mount Barker is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is about 600 km² and has about 33,000 inhabitants (2016).
Mount Barker is located in the Outer Adelaide region about 30 kilometers southeast of the city center of the metropolis Adelaide . The area includes 32 hamlets and villages: Biggs Flat, Blakiston, Brukunga, Bugle Ranges, Bull Creek, Callington, Chapel Hill, Dashwood Gully, Dawesley, Echunga, Flaxley, Hahndorf , Harrogate, Hay Valley, Jupiter Creek, Kanmantoo, Littlehampton, Macclesfield , Meadows, Mount Barker , Mount Barker Springs, Nairne, Native Valley, Paechtown, Paris Creek, Petwood, Philcox Hill, Prospect Hill, Shady Grove, St Ives, Totness and Wistow. The administrative headquarters of the council is located in the village of Mount Barker in the center of the LGA, where around 16,500 inhabitants live (2016).

The Mount Barker Council has eleven members, ten councilors are elected by the residents of the three wards (two from the South Ward and four each from the Central and North Ward). These three districts are defined independently of the localities. The council chairman and mayor is also elected by all residents of the LGA.
