Ecumenical Europe Center Frankfurt (Oder)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ecumenical Europe Center Frankfurt (Oder) eV (OeC) is a non-profit association dedicated to promoting interdenominational and cultural encounters between Brandenburg and East Central Europe. Diverse ecumenical initiatives and educational events serve to promote the growing together of Europe. The OeC maintains the Friedenskirche , the oldest church in the city, as well as the study and guest house "Hedwig von Schlesien" as an interdenominational meeting place for students.

The OeC was founded in 1994 on the initiative of the then Frankfurt Superintendent Christoph Bruckhoff and the Rector of the European University Viadrina Hans N. Weiler . The speech given by the President of the European Commission Jacques Delors to the Conference of European Churches in 1992 was inspiring, saying that it must succeed in “giving Europe a soul, providing it with a spirituality and a deeper meaning”. The OeC places particular emphasis on the close relationship with neighboring Poland . Frankfurt (Oder) as a border town appears as an exemplary place to strengthen an ecumenical culture of "understanding, reconciliation, tolerance and peace in Central-Eastern Europe" ( Manfred Stolpe as member of the board of trustees of the OeC).

“Thinking about Europe” and cross-border togetherness on site are primarily served by the “Frankfurt Border Talks”, the annual study and encounter trips, and various religious and cultural events on current occasions.

OeC founding members are the Ecumenical Council Frankfurt (Oder), the City of Frankfurt (Oder) and the European University Viadrina . Further cooperation partners are the Evangelical Church District Oderland-Spree, the Archdiocese of Berlin , the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia , the Diocese of Zielona Góra-Gorzów , the Diocese of Wrocław ( Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland ) and the Eparchy of Wrocław and Szczecin of Polish Orthodox Church .
