Open D tuning

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Open D tuning , for a traditional folk -Stück as Vestapol mood or also referred to "DAdfad" is a Scordatura the guitar . The strings of the instrument are tuned so that a D major chord sounds when the open strings are struck. By using the high D string alone, you can even play a melody in D major.

The tuning

Starting from the standard tuning (E - A - d - g - h - e 1 ) you get the open D tuning (D - A - d - f sharp - a - d 1 ) as follows:

  • The sixth string (bass string) is tuned a whole tone lower. It must then sound an octave lower than the open fourth string. The sixth string in the seventh fret and the empty fifth string should sound the same.
  • The third string is tuned a semitone lower and then sounds like the fourth string fingered on the fourth fret.
  • The second string is tuned one note lower. It then sounds an octave higher than the open fifth string or like the third string fingered in the third fret.
  • The first string is also tuned a whole tone lower and then sounds an octave higher than the open fourth string or like the second string in the fifth fret.

The open D tuning corresponds in the interval structure to the open E tuning (E - H - e - g sharp - h - e 1 ), in which all strings sound a large second higher in comparison. Due to the increased string tension, the open E-tuning may be difficult. U. dangerous for the instrument.

The numbers indicate the frets of the strings to be picked; left the bass string. Strings marked with x are not struck.
