Oglala Lakota College (OLC) is a recognized college on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota . The motto of the university is " Rebuilding The Lakota Nation Through Education " in German "Reconstruction of the Lakota Nation Through Education". The college is headquartered in Kyle in Oglala Lakota County . University operations are organized on a decentralized basis. There is a university base in each of the 9 districts of the reserve. This is necessary due to the area and the poor traffic development and lack of public transport in the reserve. The college also has a base in Rapid City and the Cheyenne River Reservation . Around 1500 students are enrolled at the OLC, 450 of them in Rapid City, which is not part of the reserve area. The college was founded in 1971 by the reservation government.
