The ear dagger is a late medieval weapon from Italy.
description
The ear dagger has a straight, double-edged, pointed blade. The blade becomes narrower from the handle to the location and tapers to a point. The booklet usually has a small, disc-shaped guard. The dagger usually has a strong tang on which handle shells made of different materials are riveted. There are also versions that are equipped with an all-metal handle. Because the tang is relatively strong and wide, it was possible to apply a decorative ornament ( engraving or tau ) on the flat sides of the tang in some versions . The knob is made of two flat, round plates that are arranged at an oblique angle to each other. The plates are often attached to the knob part with strong rivets. These plates resembled protruding ears and gave the dagger its name. This dagger was mainly used in Italy, but also in the rest of Europe.
