The oku rat ( Lamottemys okuensis ) is a rodent from the group of old world mice (Murinae).
So far only four specimens of the Oku rat have been found. The animals reach a head body length of 11 to 14 centimeters and a tail length of 11 to 13 centimeters. Two animals weighed reached 43 and 69 grams. Their fine fur is colored brown, with the underside being a little lighter. The gray tail is covered with small scales and short hair.
The species is only known from the area of Mount Oku in Cameroon . It lives in mountainous rainforests at an altitude of 2100 to 2900 meters, otherwise nothing is known about their way of life. Your entire circulation area measures less than 100 square kilometers, about the kind of which is IUCN as ( "high risk" endangered ) listed.
It is systematically part of the Oenomys group within the Old World mice .
