Ocularist

Ocularist describes the profession of manufacturer of eye prostheses , who also adapts them to the patient. In addition, he advises and looks after the patient in all questions relating to special ocular prosthetics and corresponding care. Other names for ocularist are artificial eye manufacturer, eye artist or eye prosthetist. There are currently around 60 ocularists in Germany. In Germany, the training lasts six years, but is not officially recognized. Nevertheless, there is a two-stage training with corresponding examinations by the Bundesverband Deutsche Ocularistische Gesellschaft e. V. (DOG) and the Allgemeine Ocularisten Verband e. V. (AOV) .
