Okurigana ( Japanese 送 り 仮 名 , characters sent afterwards ) are hiragana in the Japanese script , which together with a kanji form a word . Most commonly Okurigana be as morphemes in the conjugation of verbs used during the kanji, the lexical morpheme represent.

Example: 帰 り た く な い

In the example opposite with the pronunciation kaeritakunai ( eng . I don't want to return home ), the first character ( kae ) is a kanji meaning (to return home) . All other signs are okurigana; they modify the verb as follows:

  • ri : inflectional ending of the verb for (to return home)
  • た く taku : from tai = like / want
  • な い nai : negation
