Zitkala-Ša

Old Indian Legends is a collection of 14 Sioux stories, by the Yankton- Dakota -Schriftstellerin Zitkala-Sa be retold. This collection was published in 1901. Since Zitkala-Ša was concerned about the assimilation of the children of her tribe, she wanted to preserve the traditional stories of her people. The first five legends are about an unfortunate trickster character, a spider fairy named Iktomi.
