The Waipuke Beach is a beach on the west coast of the Antarctic Ross Island . It is located 10 km southwest of Cape Bird between McDonald Beach and Caughley Beach .
Participants in a 1958-1959 campaign as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition mapped and named him. The Maori Waipuke means something like high tide and indicates the periodic flooding of the beach by meltwater from the Cape Bird ice cap , which threatens a breeding colony of Adelie penguins .
