The Old Melbourne Gaol is a museum and former prison in Melbourne , Victoria , Australia . It has been the site of 135 executions and has housed some of Victoria's most notorious criminals, including the well-known mugger Ned Kelly . The prison was closed in 1924. Today the Old Melbourne Gaol provides a glimpse into 19th century prison life.
