Granaglione ( Emilian : Granajån ) is a fraction of the Italian municipality ( comune ) Alto Reno Terme in the metropolitan city of Bologna , Emilia-Romagna region .

geography

The place is about 52 kilometers southwest of Bologna at 493  m slm on the orographic left side of the valley of the Reno through which the Reno flows in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines on the southern foothills of the Monte di Granaglione 1221  m slm

history

Granglione was an independent municipality until 2015 and merged with the neighboring municipality of Porretta Terme on January 1, 2016 to form the new municipality of Alto Reno Terme. The districts of Biagioni, Borgo Capanne, Casa Calistri, Casa Forlai, Lustrola, Madognana, Molino del Pallone, Ponte della Venturina and Vizzero also belonged to the municipality of Granaglione.

The municipality of Granaglione was the southernmost municipality of the metropolitan city of Bologna, close to the border with Tuscany ( Province of Pistoia ), from which it is separated by the waterways Reno and Orsigna , its left tributary. The course of the river from Rio Maggiore, on the other hand, marks the border to the former municipality of Porretta Terme.

The former municipal coat of arms

The municipality stretched for the most part on the steep foot of the mountains that crown the Reno valley westwards and only extend at less sinuous heights in the area around the villages of Borgo Capanne , Varano , Madognana , where the last buttresses from Monte di Granaglione gently to Porretta descend.
